Nelson Pine Industries
Limited produces GoldenEdge MDF (Medium
Density Fibreboard) and NelsonPine LVL (Laminated Veneer Lumber)
from radiata pine grown in the plantation forests of Nelson, New
Zealand. Production of MDF began in 1986, with the new LVL plant
commissioned in 2002. Nelson Pine Industries has a reputation for:

The Nelson-Marlborough
region is one of New Zealand's major forestry areas, with about
16% of the productive land area planted in production forests. Harvest
predictions are for 2.5 million cubic metres per year by 2005, of
which Nelson Pine will use about 1 million cubic metres.

Environmental
issues
Sustainable plantation radiata pine forests reach maturity
in about 25 years. Produced from these forests in the Nelson
region, GoldenEdge Medium Density Fibreboard and NelsonPine
Laminated Veneer Lumber are viewed favourably as substitutes
for tropical hardwoods which take 200 years to reach maturity.
